Purpose of the Communication and Image Committee

- Pownal Brochure Project The Committee has recently completed work on a town brochure to be distributed across the community for handout to tourists or people interested in moving to Pownal. The brochure welcomes visitor to the town of Pownal with community information pages and opens up to a large map that list points of interest. The map is surrounded by a host of local business whose contributions supported the brochure project. Their locations can be found on the map. The brochure/map is free. Look for it in stores and shops throughout the community and pick up a copy home for friends or relatives visiting our beautiful town.

While many in our community can be linked by computers and this page, pbwiki.com, offers an opportunity to include many more of Pownal citizens in the processes, without local input from our governing respresentatives, with timely posting of meeting minutes so that residents would be informed of local concerns, and help generate more attendance at meetings and forums. I believe that it is imperative for a communication and image committee to push and assist in transparent local government. Right now this does not exist.

I love the map and I'm proud to be a part of it.
However, the road that connects County and Old Military east of Barber Pond Road is called Schenkar Rd - not Schanker. I've contacted Jim at BCRC and he says he can't change it until 911 changes it. I've contacted our 911 coordinator and she says she's heard it many ways.
As a business MOVING to Schenkar Rd. it is imperative to me to get these names right. The tax map at the town office is incorrect as well (but the tax BILL is right). The road signs are different too. At County it says Schankar. At Old Military it is correct with Schenkar.
With 911 being incorrect, all the online maps and directories are wrong as well. With road signs mismatched - that could be a problem for providers. Maybe the wrong committee to complain to - but it would be nice if the next map was correct.
